Oud Perfume Guide: How to Choose an Oud for Weddings, Eid and Winter

Oud is one of the most loved fragrance notes in Pakistan and the Middle East. It is rich, warm and lasts for hours – which is why it is the go-to scent for weddings, Eid, Jummah and cold winter evenings. But not every oud smells the same. This guide helps you choose the right one.
What is oud?
Oud (also called agarwood) comes from the resin of the agar tree. Its smell is deep, woody and slightly smoky. In perfumes it is usually blended with other notes like rose, amber, vanilla or spices, which completely changes its character – from dark and smoky to soft and sweet.
The main types of oud perfume
1. Smoky and bold oud
For people who love a strong, traditional Arabian scent.
- Oud E Missali – agarwood, sandalwood, spices and amber with a soft raspberry dry-down.
- Marj – smoky oud with honey, spices and florals.
2. Sweet and warm oud
Easier to wear and very popular for evenings.
- Ameer Ul Oud – smoky oud softened with vanilla, sandalwood, amber and musk.
- Sheikh Al Shuyukh – warm spices and deep woods with a touch of sweetness.
3. Rose oud
A classic combination for weddings – romantic and elegant, loved by men and women.
- Rose Oud – timeless rose blended with deep, rich oud.
4. Fresh and modern oud
For people who find traditional oud too heavy.
- White Oud – smooth oud blending traditional richness with modern freshness.
Which oud for which occasion?
Mehndi, baraat and walima: Rose Oud or Oud E Missali.
Eid and Jummah: Ameer Ul Oud or White Oud – rich but not overpowering in the mosque.
Winter evenings: Marj or Sheikh Al Shuyukh.
First time trying oud: White Oud or Ameer Ul Oud.
How to wear oud
Oud is strong, so less is more: 2–3 sprays are usually enough. Spray on the neck and chest, or lightly on your kurta or shawl – oud lasts especially long on fabric. Avoid spraying directly on silk or light colours.
